Just to add - after £6000, I told the EA that was it - would not be going any more and if the other party came in with another offer they could have it and not to be coming back to me for another offer. At this stage I was thoroughly, let's say - annoyed, and meant it.
Appreciate what you are saying about the £60, but I am convinced they were trying to milk it for more and - and a lot of £60's, £50's or whatever extra they can cream all adds up....sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0 -
I sold in Birmingham and bought here in early 2005. EA in Brum was so professional - visited and valued well, advised well, consulted at every point. Always escorted viewers and "sold" the property well - witnessed by myself and managed the process extremely well.
EAs here - had to call them from Brum to make appointments to view over a 3 day window. Had to do all the chasing for the confirmations - I think the idea of a long distance call was anathema to them. I was amazed that they would never accompany me and I also felt the vendors were not well briefed on my potential. And probably the worst bit of the lot - I expressed interest in a great number of properties I saw on the website for NI and in too many of them received the feedback that they had been sold several months before my enquiry!
Well - The only way has to be up!!John0 -
comments on the unprofessional attitudes of estate agents reminded me that not once but twice an estate agent in Ballymena made arrangements to meet us at a house to view it. Twice we drove the whole way from Belfast, (we lived there at the time) in the evening after work, and sat for a couple of hours and no one turned up. And twice when I rang the next day I didn't even get an apology, just 'oh, he didn't turn up? well, come tonight at 8 instead'. Grrr....
and I know the obvious answer is 'well, don't buy a house through those agents' but there aren't that many agents in Ballymena so you don't have much choice.....
although on a positive note, when we sold our house we used a different agent in Ballymena and they were really professional, I really couldn't fault them at all..
Edit: I've just remembered, they actually did do something really unprofessional - eighteen months after we moved, they still had our house on their website as being for sale.....but apart from that, er, minor detail ....!0 -
I recently arranged a viewing on a flat I wanted to buy .I was surprised the agent did the viewing as this agent doesn't normally do viewings .Pity he turned up an hour late. I tried to view another house about 18 months ago .The agent said it was sale agreed the previous day and as he knew the buyer and didnt know me the seller would accept his recomendation .Afterwards I was told the buyer was going to let it out via the same agent. The agent wasnt acting in the best interest off the vender he was thinking off the letting fee .
Another agent told me I couldnt have any evening viewing or weekend viewings as the agent didnt work evenings or weekends.0
