The account is marked as settled so will be removed from the report six years from the settlement date of 17/02/09, which will be the close of business 17/02/15.
When a defaulted account is paid it will normally be marked as a satisfied, and the default status will remain.
Just received this from experian. I guess the moral of the story is if you are trying to repair your credit status don't go for a partial settlement!
It is annoying that if I didn't pay anything it would be gone now ... if I continued to pay the measly £2 pm and take about 30 years to pay it, it would be gone now ... but because I settled I get marked for a further six years.

Well, as already discussed, normally under a partial settlement the original default will stay. So it would not result in the account staying on your file longer.
In fact, by removing the default I think they have actually acted unfairly, and also are not accurately reporting the account history.
Presumably that reply from Experian is in response to a formal dispute that you have raised with them?
I would also probably have a word with the ICO to see whether prejudicing you by misreporting the account history is fair in their eyes.

Hi fermi,
Actually it was more of an informal query. 'Why has it been changed from default to partially settled and when will it come off?' That was their reply.
I have replied telling them I think it is unfair. I will follow up that link. Thanks.
Incidently, is this likely to be Experian who has taken off the default in favour of partially settled or the DCA?0 -
The DCA.
Experian have a duty to report the data they are supplied with by creditors, and are not allowed to amend it.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

OK .. I can't remember who the DCA were so if I contacted MBNA would they be able to do anything? Presumably I would need account numbers etc.
And in future if I were to make a partial settlement can I make it a condition of settlement that they DO NOT AMMEND my credit file?0 -
Knowing MBNA, I suspect they would be deliberately awkward. Can't do any harm though.
You could make it a condition. Honestly though, 99% of the time the default will stay. It's unusual for it to be taken off.
I must be mixing you up with someone else or a different account, as I could have sworn this was Natwest rather than MBNA?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

This one is MBNA due to fall off next month, April, but I have a Nat West default that has already fallen off. I did ask the question before because all 5 :embarasse of my defaults will be gone this time next year and I dont want to be in a position where I have struggled all these years just to have 'Partially Settled' put back for another 6 years everytime I partially settle a debt.0
