Help - planning on making some puff pastry tarts for packed lunches etc, and have got everything ready, then realised I forgot to take the pastry out of the freezer last night - doh! It's out now, and sitting next to the radiator, but I'm wondering, can I stick it in the microwave on v.low / defrost??
Thanks in advance
Jo

Hmm haven't tried this myself but I would be wary of putting it next to the radiator. You need to defrost slowly otherwise the butter might melt and the pastry won't puff any more.
If you're very careful with the defrost setting on the microwave it might work. Just turn / check it frequently0 -
Thanks - I'll give it a go, I thought it if put it in for 1 minute blasts and then let it sit a while, then another minute, hopefully it should be ok. Next time I'll check the pastry is there before I start mixing up fillings!!:o
Thanks again

I wouldn't risk it in the micro. I'd keep it in the packaging and put it in a bowl of cold water.0

I tried to defrost some in the microwave last week and it didn't work at all. Half frozen, half cooked puff pastry. Yum!
If stuck again i'd do the cold water trick too.0 -
Nope - you can't defrost it quickly - cold water is probably colder than the air temp too so you won't be gaining much.
I'd wait. I shouldn't take too long anyway and if its ready rolled then you can use it before its fully thawed anyway if that works for your recipe.0
