Advice needed: Can we get a mortgage?

My partner has about 4 defaults on his credit rating, however all his debts have been paid off recently. He incurred the defaults because he signed up to Money Tailor, a debt management scheme who said his credit rating would not be effected but it has been because although he was paying them, they were not paying the companies! He has put notices of correction on them, but we have been told that he won't have a clear credit rating for about 6 years!

I have very good credit and have nearly £30k in the bank although my income is fairly low. We have jointly owned a house for 7 years now, but are not sure whether to go through with the sale as we don't think we can get a mortgage now.

Can anyone offer any advice on any of these points?

Thanks!
