St Patricks day is only a public holiday in Ireland (North & South) so unless you are there then they are open.

Its not even a public holiday in the North! Many schools etc are still open. It should be a public holiday here.

    The post office is closed.

All public services (government offices, banks, PO's, doctor's, libraries, dispensing chemists..) close on all the 'statutary days' which include St. Patrick's Day.

However, shops and public transport seem to go on as normal nowadays.
