in Cutting tax
Okay since most of my life has been spent living at home i've never had to pay it before.
Got a letter today saying we need to pay from april and a bill is on it's way.
We currently have a 4 people house 2 workers and 2 students, do you think we will get a discount?

Appreciate everyone’s advice here, keep up the great work!

No discount, sorry. If you had 3 students and 1 worker, then you would get a 25% (single person) discount. If all students, then no council tax.0

Hi I have received a council tax bill to pay half on a property which is never used. The property was on the closing order for several years or a clearance order which is used now a day. Under this exception council tax does not need to be paid. Would anyone with experience share a light why I received a bill to pay half. thanks

Exemptions usually only last for 6 or 12 months AFAIK, tho I am not familiar with the term "clearance order". If you are an owner of the property then you are liable if the CT exemption is removed, which I would guess is what has happened. Best to call the council and ask, really.0 -
I received a bill to pay half. thanks
or
have you been given a 50% discount on a full years bill - you have been given a discount becuase the property is empty and unfurnished ?
the bill should provide the info you need to work this out yourself - it will show either the exmeption class or define the discount given - look then up on google0 -
Can you clarify what you mean by closing order/clearance order so I can advise you further ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

If a closing order is issued for your home, it means that the property can no longer be used as living accommodation. The council can send you a closing order if your home is below the tolerable standard but is part of a building in which other properties are not0

so do you mean it had (has?) a Class G exemption - Premises where law prohibits occupation?
Any premises:- Which are unoccupied and
- Where occupation is prohibited by law or it is unoccupied by reason of any action taken by a public body to prohibit occupation
- Please note that this exemption only applies where the premises are unoccupied and the exemption will be lost even if occupied illegally
- The exemption will commence from the day the premises becomes unoccupied and subject to prohibition
- The exemption will last for as long as the conditions are met.
What does it actually say on your bill?????????? they must have provided some explanation for why they are charging you 50%0 -
I had been to the council office and I got told that the Closing Orders has been revoke or repeal due to the regulations change

(4) Where—
(a) an appeal in respect of a closing order to which sub-paragraph (2) applies is allowed; and

the 1985 Act,
the local housing authority shall take the finding into account if they subsequently consider taking
action of a kind mentioned in section 5(2) or 7(2) of the 2004 Act in respect of the premises
concerned.
(5) A closing order to which sub-paragraph (2) applies shall cease to have effect on 6th April
