Im thinking of starting my own computer repair company, just in my spare time to start with and kind of test the waters.

Just going to start locally, but im not sure if my prices are resonable , ive researched around but would really like your opinions or experiences.

Ive done a simple website , pm me if you would like to see the link

Im not sure if i was allowed to do a proper link.

Thanks in advance

So long as myself and my fellow Tech-Mercs are fixing computers for 'what the customer thinks it is worth', the scope for earning an income from PC repairs is somewhat limited.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

  • Just do it, if it's something in your spare time and you're not relying on the income from it then what's the hold up?

The problem with computer services/repairs is that everyone seems to be doing it and the competition is high but that's no reason why you shouldn't give it a go. I keep thinking about trying something similar myself just advertising locally in the newsagents windows and supermarkets first or even printing some a6 flyers to post through letterboxes - it'd give me something to do while looking for jobs.

    Good luck

Everyone has added to that over the months, so i dont think there would be an issue you adding more. ;)

You wont get much business via a website. You really need to invest a few £ putting a one liner into your local newpapers for a couple of weeks and see what response you get. Also, stick a free ad on gumtree, and on any notice boards (inc libraries) and newsagents you can find.

You can get very cheap business cards printed via vistaprint and others, on which you could put a brief summary of what you do. You can leave some of those with any customers you get to pass on.

Also, get yourself a disposable PAYG mobile phone number, that you can switch off when you're not available.

Also, look for the 'value add' - ie, memory upgrades, monitor upgrades, speakers, new keyboard / mouse - keep the common items in stock. Aim to double your money on these and spare parts - eg, buying PSU's at £10, sell for £20 plus fitting.

Other than that, read the other thread as there has been a lot of effort put into it.

If specifically you want to ask a question, ask me on here (and others will answer to) as i did this for a couple of years.

Nice one guys , yeah ive done most of the following just want to make sure ive ticked all the boxes before i start thats all.

    Website done
    Business Cards Done
Invoice / Order / Quotation forms Done
Flyers / Posters Done but not sent
    PAYG phone Done
    Insurance Done

The couple of things im having issues with is a decent set of terms and conditions and some sort of system of idenification of machines when i collect or are dropped off i.e. some sort of bacode that gets printed on label as well as on the order, labels goes onto machine , scan invoice or machine to give customer/pc details. Not sure if theres anything along those lines available ????
