spud peelings.....

are good for......what?

Other than putting in the compost bin, can pot peelings be used for anything else? I know that sounds a daft question but hey if I don't ask I will never know

put them in oven and then season them...voila cheap crisps.
  • You could pop them into soups too. I only ever peel potatoes when I am doing mash. For all other recipes I leave the peel on.

I do this. Scrub them, sprinkle with a little oil and some flavourings (if I have cheap noodles, I sprinkle the sachet of flavouring over the top sometimes) or just salt & pepper otherwise. I figured I eat the skin on a jacket potato, so why not this way? :)

You shouldn't even put them in the compost bin. Eating spuds carry vast amounts of plant diseases which can't hurt you but could possibly harm your garden plants, depending on what you grow. This goes x100 if you're growing your own potatoes or tomatoes and intend to use your bin compost on them. Best place for potato skins is on the potato when you eat them...even in mash. Or a wormery, or the dustbin.

Or on a completely different idea..... When peeling lots of different veg (including pots of course) give the peelings to the kids for them to make messy play pictures out of! Great fun and theres not mega mess cos its not paint, glue etc! :D

Ie - my little boy the other day did a great face (which he then took a picture of) carrot leafy bits for hair, parsnip tops for eyes, bit of red pepper for mouth etc etc
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
