i recently heard from a friend i couldclaim back my bussiness miles, i am an employee of a home care company and have to travel to clients house. i get no help from my emploer for fuel costs.
anyway i have just filledout the forms for the last 3 tax years (07-08, 08-09, 09-10)
2 of the forms the total amount was just over £1000 for each, and the other was £1700. the total for all 3 p87 forms was £3850,70
will i get the full £3850,70 back, and if not how much will i get back?
been getting mixed responses from other forums some sayingyou get the actual amount you claim (I.E £3850) and others saying that you get a percentage of the total you claimed for.
could anyone shine any light on this.
thanks
my yearlyincome is around £6000 (i work partime between 16 and 22 hours a week)

You only get tax relief on the amount, but to get this you need to have paid some tax first.
Did you pay any tax in any of those years?0 -

The amount you could claim would be quite small then.
I think it is terrible that you get no payment for fuel from your employer!0 -
Hi I am also a home carer (part-time) and have found the P87 form online and wondered if you can print it and send it to HM R&C or if you have to request an official copy from them and then send it back?
How did you get your form mreyeball please?
Thanks0 -
Are the two of you "self employed" ?
If you really are employed you should be getting at least the minimum wage and "your master" should be providing you with the ability to do your job. Are you expected to buy your own latex gloves etc etc.
(OK craftsman's tools are a bit of a special case)

(This second link is quite fun and puts the state of the country in perspective - why the Poles should be expected to bail out the Greeks completely escapes me)0
