I had a seasonal christmas job that lasted until the end of January. Due to me starting so quickly and by the time the paperwork was sorted, i ended up being paid 2 weeks in arrears. That is fine and i have received all correct payments. however there are problems with the p45 issued by the employer when i left the job. they have issued the p45 as of the end date of my employment and have entered the amount earned up to that date and the tax paid. What they havent factored in is the fact that i was still due two weeks pay after the date of finishing. I havent earned up to my tax free threshold for the tax year 2010-2011 so i want to claim the tax back, but will be claiming a greater amount than on the p45. i have been in touch with the employer payroll who have said that they cannot issue an amended p45 once one has already been issued to the same person for the same period of employment. the tax office have told me that they need the employer to reissue so that their records are correct for when i put the claim in.
Can anyone explain a way to resolve this. ideally i would like a p45 that is fully correct so that when i go to a next job it will be correct and straighforward.
any help or advice would be much appreciated.
