Need some advice on finding a shared ownership mortgage with difficult circumstances

Hi I hope this explanation won't sound too long winded but a bit of advice would be gratefully received.
We are currently tenants in a HA new build house. Our tenancy is up at the end of May and if we can't buy a share in the house by then we will be out. When we moved in last May we thought no problem, but since then I have been made redundant. It took me months to find another job but I finally found a contract postion and I am being taken on permanently at the end of March. It is a part time job so the salary isn't high. My credit file isn't very brilliant though
My husband is foreign. We have been through all the correct visa processes and he has been in his current job for more than 3 years. However as he is not yet a british national he is not allowed to go onto the electoral roll ( his nationality has been applied for, it could come through next week or in 4 months time, we don't know ) He has a normal current bank account but no credit history. He works full time.
We are just starting to look around at mortgages but don't really know where to start as I feel that our circumstances are going to prove difficult,
Does anyone have any ideas?
