60's themed party - RECIPES PLS!!

I'd definitely be squeezing Primula onto your Ritz crackers with a few chives or a slice of tomato.
For pudding, I do remember having dream topping on trifle (pretty disgusting it was too). Also, tinned fruit like sliced peaches with Ideal (evaporated) milk or tinned sterilised cream. You could put out some biscuits like Cadbury's chocolate fingers or iced gems or those pink wafer things for a bit of fun.
Are you doing 60s drinks too? I remember people drinking Babycham, Snowball, lots of cider and gin & lime. Height of sophistication was to copy James Bond and have martini shaken, not stirred!0 -

We-hey!!! I was wondering what to do if the party went flat!!!!:rotfl:
Great recipe suggestions - thanks.
Forgot to mention quiche, that's my speciality!!! So it's def on the menu.
I'll have to have some poetic license with the tomatoes!
Just can't bear the thought of Primula cheese:lipsrseal - perhaps I had a a bad experience with it as a baby!!
Pate on Ritz........mmmmmmm - think I'm liking!
Could I get away with cocktail sausages?0 -
Celery boats - cut celery into 2 inch pieces and fill with primula cheese from a tube.
Oops! Just realised Baloo doesn't use Primula, might be useful for others though.0 -
From what I can remember of sixties parties - you got sandwiches -cheese, ham or tinned salmon cut into triangles.
cheddar cheese on cocktail sticks - with bits of tinned pineapple or little cocktail (silverskin) onions on some
bowls of crisps (seperate bowls for salted and cheese 'n onion)
chipolata sausages on sticks
sausage rolls
little pasties your mum made with a corned beef potato and carrot filling (still popular now)
bowls of salted nuts
cheese straws
some swiss roll
some chocolate covered swiss roll or if you were really pushing the boat out a flan with sponge base, some real strawberries all covered with quick jel and dream topping or fresh cream!
popular drinks were - babycham, snowballs, and cherryB for the ladies and a Party 7 for the men (beer, as lager wasnt popular then being seen as a bit 'girly')
of course this was at 'nice' parties - the other kind had beer, whisky and vodka - only crisps to eat and any colour of 'acid' you wanted and the air was so thick with 'weed' that you got high just standing on the doorstep!0 -
Many thanks to all of you who contributed recipes and ideas for my "Swinging;)" 60's party at the weekend!! It was a great success. Everyone loved the food. I didn't even get to try a devilled egg as they just flew off the plates. The only thing left the following morning was............
Celery sticks filled with PRIMULA!!! Knew it was a bad idea!!:rotfl:
Anyway, if any of you are thinking of something to do with friends one weekend then hosting your own Murder Mystery Night comes highly recommended. We made our own costumes or got them from e-bay or charity shops. It was just FAB BABY!!!!!0
