Is the coalition targetting women?

To be fair, the oppposition never come out with any decent ideas when its not a run up to an election, in case the incumbent government steals them I suspect.
I certainly can't remember that many policy announcements from the Tories in their time in opposition.
If you wish to make a fool of someone and they are doing it themselves, why interfere.0 -
That the cuts affect women more doesn't mean they're being specifically targetted it means that they're more dependent on the state.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

He stated cuts to child benefit, child tax credit, are all cuts aimed specifically at women, and the coalition have aimed to target women with such cuts.
This was on the newsnight special last night about middle class england.
Is he right to say what he did?
Hardly targeted, the money has to be raised somewhere - David Willetts seemed fairly reasonable.
The only solution Labour have come up with is the nakedly political soak the banks.
The one group almost exempt from cuts in income and benefits are pensioners (although a minority will likely suffer thru cuts to social services).
This is pretty ridiculous from an economic point of view (as they have been the biggest gainers from house prices / pensions / healthcare) - but they are a massive group and they vote.
Cut the winter fuel allowance / free TV licence etc etc.0 -

I'm a woman and none of these cuts affect me, I wonder how many families in this country are now dependant on state benefits such as WTC and CTC, its about time it was cut, this help should be for low income families only."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Well there's that argument put to bed - thanks for clearing that up.0 -
So every time Labour increased Child Benefits and Child Tax Credits, this was specifically targetted against the male population.
Shameful!0 -
Glad everyone else thinks along the same lines as me.
Did anyone see this on newsnight? Couldn't believe he got away with it and no one said anything. He stated the coalition is targetting women about 3 times!0 -

Me too,I'm a woman and none of the cuts affect me either.
I think the problem is that even working families are so used to being dependant on benefits that they're moaning about it and feeling hard done by.
I've read a few of the threads on these boards and while everyone seems to happily bash people on out of work/sickness/disability benefits those working and claiming handouts seem to set themselves apart.
They should'nt realy since they still get handouts.
I work and don't claim any benefits by the way so I'm just making an observation here.0
