Just to give you an update, I called the OR assistant today and explained what had happened, she said that she was quite happy for me to withdraw the money and she was writing to bank to day I am bankrupt but they are happy to keep my bank account open. Natwest will close it anyway but at least I have my child benefit0

I am in the process of requesting NatWest let me keep the account, I have the basic STEP account already, I am going in to chat to someone next week. I am already struggling to keep on top of what I have in Co Op acct as it takes so long for card transactions to show.
I owe NW nothing, have no overdraft, but having read posts on here, not sure I can trust them....
I wonder what would happen if they agreed to me keeping account, and then they 'froze' it with funds in, would I be able to get the money back somehow?BSC 343 - AD March 2012

It's always best if you start a new thread for your own question. Having said that, this is fairly easy to answer.
Do NOT trust them. What they agree to in the branch or even over the phone may not actually happen. Once the OR writes to NatWest to inform them of BR, somebody actions that letter by punching keys on a computer. The computer then spits out "freeze the account". It's just not worth the risk because it can be a nightmare unfreezing an account. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
