Actually if you are in possession of someone's bank details - just account no and sort code will do - you can take money out of someone's account.

Jeremy Clarkson once took the same dismissive attitude regarding bank details, revealed them in an article published in the Sunday Times, and lost £500. Granted some charity was the beneficiary of the £500 - but it did prove the point.

And the end result of that was to show that the DD guarantee works, he was offered a full refund (which to his credit he refused, allowing the donation to stand).

It could have been worse for Clarkson. The direct debit could have been to the caravan club.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

On a serious note as in Clarksons case, a DD was set up using his account details and a fake signature to pay money to Diabetes UK. The bank should have picked up on this , hence the offer of a full refund.

Not any Tom , !!!!!! or Harry can accept direct debit payments so the "fraudster" would have to set up a DD to a recognised company/charity , thats why the payment was made to Diabetes UK.

Even if the fraudster did go to the trouble of setting up a facility to receive direct debits he would soon end up on the "dumbest criminals" show by paying the money into his own bank account.
You could say that the fraudster could use a fake bank account to transfer the money into, all I know is that its difficult enough nowadays to open a genuine bank account , let alone a fake one.

Anyhow, back to the point. I think that the Tetley tea men are a safe bet. ;o)

  • Just got back from Budgens, the Redbush tea is also part of this 'try me free' offer, and it is currently on offer for £1.00. This looks like a nationwide offer. (the packs have a yellow strip on the top of the packs stating 'try me free'. You need to enter the code under the lid)

I have entered my account details for the refund, and it states we will refund £1.79, so I have just got free teabags and 79p profit. :T

The website states account details are held securely and has a HSBC secure logo.

Anyone who does not want to give their bank details, why not donate your refund instead,

Just register & enter your promo code then choose the option to donate to orangutan habitat in Borneo.

You'll save 1 square metre of critical orangutan habitat in Borneo. 1 square metre is appoximately the area that would contain one large tree. We would say that's priceless.
So, before you claim your £1.79 Try Me Refund, why not claim this instead?

I can't believe that anyone would really be that bothered about £1.79 and would actually want a cheque and be bothered to take it to the bank.

Thanks fozmcfc, like you say it's so simple, just takes a couple of minutes to register & no need to give your bank details if you are donating instead.
