Advice on CV.

Hi

I would like some advice on my CV if possible. As you will see it is hardly the greatest CV. The template I have used is basically one from when I left school many years ago and I have just tried to update it. Also the last two employment entries don't look great due to the time spent at these places. Royal mail was temp but I left my last fulltime job (smg) after 4 months due to my employer not being trust worthy.Should this be pointed out on my CV?

I have not posted this to take a bashing off people as I feel dispondent enough being out of work. So if anyone has any constructive advice I would be very gratefull to hear it.

Thank you.:T

Ps I have left contact details off the top email, address, etc.

I really hope you find this helpful? I wouldn't put date of birth on CV everyone I know keeps it off including myself . Under your career history I would list for example
    ABM Ltd

    Team Secretary

    Responsibilities:
Managed all office administration for the central team

    Key Achievements:
    • Produced quality , accurate documentation for meetings

I think this type of CV is called a reverse chrononological? But good luck even if my advice not useful

consider whether you are using plurals or possessive -
factories, properties, appointments are plurals - which I think is what you want
factory's, property's, appointment's indicates that the factory etc possess something (but you don't indicate anything)

I don't think anyone would want to say they were unreliable or lazy - so not really worth saying that you are reliable and hard-working. Those are just your own opinion of yourself. What you need to write are demonstrable facts.

When you write "computer literate" what do you mean? Specify what applications you can use instead, which in itself demonstrates your computer literacy.

Give some achievements for the most recent employers. IE:

What YOU did, what YOU brought to the table.

Make sure it is no more than 2 sides of printed A4.

Expand on your most recent employment and brief over the older ones to keep it short.

Sell yourself. It reads like a list of jobs rather than a list of achievements and work history. If it just says what you do, the interviewer could have googled that from a job title. He wants to know you can increase this, or sell that, or manage this.

I'd change the layout of the employment bit. Here's an example of how I've got mine. (I, like you, had used the same format since leaving school which looked awful compared to this. I only changed it 2 weeks ago after 9 years of it looking the same)

    Work Experience:

Employer name Supply Nursery Nurse March – Present
    • Covering staff absences in local Nurseries on a casual as and when required basis

Employer name Volunteer May 2010 – July 2010
    • Volunteered as a Teaching Assistant
    • Worked across both Key Stages
    • Worked with small groups of children supporting them with their work

It's easier to see at a glance the employer name, dates I was there and job title, then just a few bullet points underneath (3 or 4 max I'd say) of key things you did. These can be explained further at an interview.

I have the following on my CV in this order:

Personal details at top, set in the centre of the page
Profile: 3 or 4 lines detailing a bit about you, your strengths, not interests
Employment details, set out as above under the heading work experience
Additional work experience: here I've bullet pointed any voluntary work and placements I've done
    Qualifications
    Interests

I've used this format http://readingroom.lsc.gov.uk/lsc/National/cas_Example_Performance_CV.pdf and changed it around slightly to the order I've listed above. Looks so much more professional than my old one.
