in Cutting tax
Hi
My wife has just received a P800 letter stating that she has underpaid tax of £491.01 for 2007/2008.
During that year (August) she changed jobs & supplied her new employer with a p45 from her previous employment.
Looking at her payslips from her new employer it is clear that, although they have used the correct tax code, they have failed to take into account any of her previous earnings or tax contributions for that year.
This essentially means that the income from her new job has been taxed as if were her only income for that year.
While I am not disputing that the tax has been underpaid do you think we have any case for suggesting that it was the employer’s responsibility for calculating the tax correctly?
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks
