Transfering a pension ??? Aviva to railway

I have had a private pension with Norwich Union / Aviva since the early 90s. I have since started on the Railways and am in the railways pension scheme.
Finally it might now be worth something and I'm thinking of transfering the old one into the railway scheme, is this a good idea??
I have opted out of serps since 1988, ( its with Barclays).
Thanks

Does your railway employer allow you to join the Final Salary Scheme? I moved across a private pension scheme into RPS to basically buy me more years in the scheme. This gave me 1 pension to deal with and a more defined pension when i come to retire.
You should also consider joining BRASS (the AVC scheme) as this gives you tax relief and (if like mine) allows you to take it as a tax free lump sum when you come to claim your benefits.0
