Well, you see, my husband is a former toad so this isn't really an option.

I bought a spray from Bettaware last year and sprayed along skirting boards etc and touch wood saw no eight legged little critters at all, its not cheap at a fiver a bottle but worth its weight in peace of mind Its called 'spiderstop I think and come August I will buy another bottle. I don't want to kill them just stop them from coming into my house .I have a brilliant gadget that looks like a small tennis racquet that I bought from Wilkinsons last year and it has a tiny electric charge in it so any flies get zapped straight away as I can't abide the pesky things
  • I actually have a few conkers in a wooden bowl that I collected in the autumn. I'll move them into the bedroom.

I'll definitely look into that spray JackieO. I don't really want to kill the either...to be honest, I don't mind them using dark corners behind furniture and the like I just don't want them in my path! I know they're mostly harmless but I'm jittery enough as it is!

see, i was going to say that too, but then it seems it might be wrong. http://www.thereaction.net/news/y2010/m10/spiders_versus_conkers_definitive_guide.aspx
i would say worth a go tho, not going to do any harm having a few conkers around.
Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.
  • :rotfl: That photo is hilarious. Conkers are free and they might have a placebo power anyway!

Oh yes that time of the year is nearly upon us  I have got better over the 18 months we have lived in our house and im not quiet so 'girly' when it comes to spiders now although i would freak if i found one on the bed
Our problem is ants, it seems our house was built on an ant hill because we get so many of them. Will have to buy some more treatment again soon.

I make my friends and family laugh with my fear of spiders because i actually keep and breed !!!! roaches and i can handle these absolutley fine, even the 4-5 inch Madagascan hissing roaches ... but a spider ... i run a mile :p (I keep reptiles which i why i keep roaches)
    Ant.

Actually, I can help with ants! I lived in a flat once that used to get terrible invasions every time it rained. Obviously if you can find where they're coming in and prevent them that is helpful. However, Cinnamon is marvellous at deterring them. Unfortunately it isn't the smell, but the fine dust so you'll need an actual barrier, but it is fascinating to watch how effective it is. They have cheap-ish jars of it at Aldi, which might be an alternative to treatments, particularly if you have other critters that might be sensitive.

for ants spray WD40 along the bottom of the door frame, renew each year as I just noticed a single ant in the hall last night. Same for flies spray round window and door frames, def works.
