Energy consumption of internet

Just been reading that the energy consumption of what we call "The Internet" is estimated to be about 5% of the worlds annual electricity consumption. That includes all the servers, routers and PCs left on at any particular point in time.
That very roughly equates to the electricity used by the whole of Russia, in the space of a year!!
Makes you think, doesn't it?
