Save postage - buy your Christmas card stamps now

Just a reminder that the cost of First & Second Class stamps for standard items weighing up to 100g rises by 5p to 46p and 4p to 36p respectively on April 4th.

The cost of a Large Letter stamp will increase by 9p to 75p for First Class, and 7p to 58p for Second Class.

I'm sure that the more Royal Mail increase the price, the fewer stamps they will sell so they're cutting off their noses to spite their faces and will just drive more people to using e-mail instead.

I've bought enough stamps to last 2 years! I did this a few years ago... and it is defiantly an investment and a half!

Problem is I am Old School (even at 29!) and everyone get's a card for Birthdays, Christmas, Thank You Notes etc (All Hand Made), so I go through about 75 - 100 stamps a year!

I bought 200 normal stamps... still have enough Large stamps from 2 years ago :o
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Good idea. Bought a fair few stamps recently - but didn't think about doing this. Will get to the post office before prices rise!!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Think I'll buy some as well. I used to do a postal survey and was "paid" in stamps - really miss them and keep forgetting to buy them now! My Christmas card list is quite long and we have loads of birthdays through the year (many local enough to hand deliver) so the cost adds up.

Thanks for the info primrose! :)

Buy your stamps at Superdrug rather than at the post office as they are offering a 5% discount currently, so the prices of the books of stamps would be as follows: -
Book of 6 First Class £2.33
Book of 12 First Class £4.67
Book of 4 First Class for large letters £2.50
:j Bought all my presents for this year (birthday and Christmas) now starting on next years!!:j

am i right in thinking tho, the stamp has to say 1st or second class ? as otherwise if it has the price printed on it say 41p but should be 46p they will say it is underpaid and make upi put a 5p stamp on ?

Yes, the stamp has to have the words "First Class" or "Second Class" printed on it, if it is to be available for indefinite use. If the price is printed on it, the post office will deem it an underpayment at the time of posting and additional stamps to the current postage price will have to be added.

When we totted up the number of Christmas cards and birthday cards we send, plus other communications throughout the year, buying an advance stock of stamps can represent a worthwhile saving.

interesting, how about covering the cost of running the network?
covering the losses on downstream access mail?
    yup,crazy talk
should make the stamps 5p each and everyone will buy them?

Same here! I keep hoping that they will ask me to rejoin the survey (they said that i had to stop to allow for rotation of people or something) as it was quite interesting to do and saved me a fortune in stamps for birthday and Christmas cards.
