2 Companies Claiming Same Debt - DLC & Apex

I posted on 22nd February that I had had letters and then a call from DLC telling me that I had to pay them £1000 to stop Court action for an Egg loan, then had to agree to pay £189 per month thereafter, total of loan is approx £4,800.
Today i've had a letter from Apex Debt Management telling me that I owe them the £4,800 and to contact them immediately, I phoned them straight away and told them about the DLC business, they stated that they bought the loan off of Egg in November last year and anything paid since then is nothing to do with this loan, they advised that I speak to DLC to ascertain what is happening.
I have tried calling DLC who tell me that they will have to look into it, i'm now worrying myself silly that i've dished over the £1000 on debit card and it seems to someone I shouldn't have done.
Ohhh what to do, in a right old tizzy now :-((
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought ... if it can be proven that this £1000 was paid to a company who is no longer the legal owner of the debt, can it be claimed back?0

Thankyou, I have today written letters to each of the parties along those lines and have asked what has happened to my £1000 and whether this will be refunded in the event that DLC are not the company who the debt is due to.0
