Eat Healthily on a Budget?

We find that meat, fruit & veg are just so expensive in the supermarkets. Fruit & veg in our local farm shop is priced comparably over the winter, but from May-October it is so much cheaper to buy it there (and a great deal fresher).

I will buy free range chicken from the supermarket if it is on offer, but would normally buy it from our local farm shop as they butcher it much more efficiently (1 boned-out chicken leg is plenty for two, one breast enough for two meals for two).

That, of course, is not an option open to everybody, but if you have a farm shop within a 20 minute drive, and have freezer space, then it may be worthwhile exploring the potential savings.

I would also never buy spices or dried herbs from a supermarket, and wait until I visit my parents near Southall to stock up.
