Satement of Affairs - help reducing costs please

Thank so much everyone for your input!
Several people mentioned the car - we're stuck with the car, unfortunately. With my health the way it is I can't travel far on public transport. The fares for my partner to get to work are similar to the petrol cost.
I will have a closer look at all your suggestions tomorrow and see where I can make changes.
Thanks again

I do not really want to question your need for transport as I have no knowledge of your health problems..... however it is an absolutely huge part of your budget, so are you absolutely sure? I live 40 miles from London and an annual commuter ticket inc tube travel costs £325 a month. As you are nearer OH would certainly be able to get it cheaper than me!
You say you need transport for longer journeys - fair enough. How often do you need to make these longer journeys? Would a taxi occasionally suffice for these?
If the numbers don't stack up for that (and I understand that convenience/independance would be a big factor too) ........A Volvo is not going to be a cheap run around and would not be most peoples first choice as a city runaround. How about a downgrade to something cheaper to fuel (and insure, your bill for that is horrendous!)0
