in Cutting tax
Hi all,
Just really wanted a moan essentially. I filled in my tax form late (v. stupid I know). I have been charged 2 lots of £100 fine. One for my personal tax and then one for my partnership tax. This seems a little unfair as it was all filled in together in one form. Also, is there any way of receiving a statement to show where the £270 I owe in tax is from?
Thanks all.

For your own personal taxation there would have been a £100 fine. That return should have had a short partnership page on which you would have declared your share of any profit or loss on your business partnership.
The other £100 fine is for the late submission of the actual business partnership form which would have details the accounts of the business, the overall profit or loss and how that was spilt between all the partners in the business.
The £270 tax owed would be your own personal taxation and if you haven't kept a copy of that return then you should ask HMRC to send out a copy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It wasn't on one form. Your personal return (late) will have got you one £100 fine. There is a partnership page on your personal return. The partnership return (not page) being late will also generate a £100 fine for each partner. The nominated partner should have completed the return on time. If this is you, be prepared to explain to the other partners why they now owe HMRC £100.

Interesting. It was actually a business partnership (since dissolved) with my boyfriend and he filled in his tax form on time and has not received a £100 fine. Does this mean that he may now receive one? I will also call the HMRC today to get my statement to see where the money was owed.
Thanks both.0 -
Make sure HMRC are aware that the partnership has been dissolved i.e. file cessation tax return for the partnership. Or you'll get another £100 hit in 12 months.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0
