Hi
I will be selling my home soon and understand that an EPC is a mandatory requirement. Estate Agents normally sell you these at the outset but is there any reason why I couldn't organise my own, more cheaply, over the internet ?
Any good experiences buying one of these cheap online ?

My estate agents said they would do the EPC for "free" if i used their ludicrously expensive solicitors. As i was arranging my own conveyancing they said i would need to pay them £100 + VAT for the EPC.
I figured this was expensive so a 10 second search on google led me to the directgov website where you can find a list of local surveyors of accredited domestic energy assessors. I put my postcode in and phoned up someone local who did it for £50

That's about average for most properties these days.
It would need to be a very big house or in a pretty remote location for it to cost £100 so tell the agents where to go,.RICHARD WEBSTER

No reason why you can't at all. TBH the agents near me don't charge all that much. We've just paid £88 inc VAT including a full floorplan of a pretty large house.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If you go to www.epcregister.com and click the Domestic EPC Registers link then you can find a local energy assessor who will do an EPC for you at a competitive price.
This is the official government register of EPC's and assessors.
SOME of the online EPC providers have proved to be less than reliable but a local assessor will have a reputation to maintain and could be a safer bet.Alan0 -
