Abbey wants £15000 from 6 years ago

i got a letter from a solicitor saying today saying i owe santander / abbey £14429.46 if i pay with in 28 day thay will take £7214.73. i dont have that money . i had a mortgage with abbey in 2003 i lost my job and lost my house . this the 1st time abbey have sent me a letter i dont know what to do can you help

Why are they offering you 50% off? Did they sell the debt for 10p in the £ and now this firm wants to make a profit? Was there some sort of mortgage indemnity policy included? What is the name of the solicitor?
I would contact one of the consumer credit charities ASAP.0 -
Whilst legally former mortgage debt such as yours does not become statute barred for 12 years, The Council of Mortgage Lenders (of which Santander belong) have agreed not to pursue anyone after the more usual 6 year period.
As your debt exits from 2003 you may have a case for them agreeing to suspend any further action against you. Are you certain the debt exists from 2003 ? Just because you may have moved out at that time doesn't make it so - when did the property get sold so the debt became due at that point.0 -

My Brother was presented with a bill of £52000, but the lender settled on just £2000 in the end.0
