Selling Stamp Collection..Help

Right, here goes my first post, I'm looking to sell 2 albums worth of stamps, that I used to collect when I was younger, some are mint, some used, from all over the world, some first day issue covers and some sets.

I have no idea what the value of any of them are, does anyone know of any legitimate places to get them valued? I don't mind paying a small fee, however I don't fancy sending them away by post, in case there are any valuable ones that "go missing" that I don't notice when I get them back.

Any help with this would be appreciated...Thanks

Aaron

You don't say where you are - Stanley Gibbons will value your collections for £5 if you can get them to London, or they have occasional road shows.

Don't raise your expectations too much though - in my experience there isn't much of a market for run of the mill stuff and you may find that the best value for the UK decimal mint ones is simply to use them for postage...

Some of the first day covers might be worth a wee bit, have a look on ebay and see what ones the same are going for. My BF had quite a few of them and sold them last year on ebay and some seemed to go for alot more than others (with no obvious reason, eg the same age etc)

Would agree with this. About 20 years ago, I had a large collection of stamps and after turning down £10 from a dealer, got £25 from a private buyer.

Stamp collecting seems to be much less popular these days except for people who collect FDCs when they are issued.
