Pity Asda don't start a beer promotion - e.g. 20 cans of Stella for a tenner, Tesco at £18.49 = 20 cans of Stella for £3.02.

    I can dream...

I hope people read this properly - it is a wish, it has NOT actually happened, but if anyone at Asda is reading...

    :rotfl:

    You say that but...

18 cans of 440ml Stella reduced at Asda to £13.00
    18 cans of 440ml Stella @ £18.49 at Tesco.

So would be an equivalent cost of £7.51 if...

The product was covered by Pricechecker. It doesn't appear to be. :(

Actually, we had a long chat at work about this. We've concluded it's not worthwhile for Asda to drop their prices.

They could never do Tesco enough financial harm by doing so (certainly not enough that they become the market leading supermarket) and so all they would be achieving is sending a larger amount of people into Tesco stores to collect vouchers to spend in, you've guessed it, Tesco. They would effectively be making people shop elsewhere and contributing to making their own stores empty.

And surely it is more important to them to get people through their doors than send them elsewhere in this crazy notion that Tesco might go bust.
  • Have you seen the ghost towns in the US where Walmart came to town & everything else closed? There are just so many towns where Walmart has totally crushed the opposition. Walmart/Asda could put a VERY big dent into Tesco profits if they so wished.

I wish Asda would take a leaf out of Walmarts book and start charging the prices Walmart do. One of our favourite things when going to Florida is Walmart.....I'm so sad :o

not sure what relevance the issue of walmart squeezing out small shops has got to do with this thread...

anyway, i am off to buy the following

    jp chenet merlot £5.49tesco £4asda
    fairy platinum 33 £10.19 tesco £7 asda

both things i regularly buy, so 3 of each i think after dtd will cost me 18.96 once i get 28.08 back... not paying me to take them away but a really nice saving on stuff i buy anyway

    have i got that right?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I have used two vouchers now (to buy more DTD stuff!!), and they were not interested in my receipts, although I did hand them over. They have been returned unmarked. Why do they need to mark them?
