Firstly I'd like to say well done for tying to get things sorted .
You mention trying to get a council house you probably wouldn't be entitled to one as they would say you made yourself homeless if you give up and sell your house you would probably have to be repossed to be housed leading to more problems and council rents are still quite expensive so you wouldn't be much better off and nothing would be yours .
About your gas you need to contact either the estate agent or builders from whom you purchased the house,(the gas supplier should be listed on some paperwork you recieved during purchase) then contact your supplier and arrange a monthly payment plan reminding them its thier fault you are in arrears.
you say your husbands wages are wrong due to no overtime payment write to his wages office listing all thats owed saying you want it payed with his next payday send copies to his head office. If that fails call the tax office explain to them that the company are not doing the wages correctly and ask them to follow it up coz the taxman will want his cut but mention that you intend to do this to the wages office when you ask for his pay (it worked for my friend companies don't like theinland revenue snooping) and good luck with everything0 -
re the gas: there's a identification number on your meter which I'm sure you can ring a general number, give them the id number and they'll tell you what supplier you have. Can't remember phone number or where I saw it mentioned though. Has anyone else heard of this?
The other thing I can think of is you should list your insurances separately so we can see if they each look like the cheapest. Have you shopped around for each of these?
Edit: Found this:
Who is my electricity supplier?
Answer
You can find out who your supplier is by calling your local distribution company. Each one keeps a record of who supplies electricity to every home in their area. You need to speak to their Meter Point Administration Service (MPAS) and give them your address, including postcode.
The phone numbers for the distribution companies are below and are usually open normal 'office hours'. Choose the area where you live:
Area Company Telephone
Eastern England EDF Energy 0870 1963082
East and West Midlands Central Networks 0845 6030618
London EDF Energy 0845 6000102
North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire & North Shropshire SP Power Systems 0845 2709101
North East England and Yorkshire CE Electric UK 0845 6013268
North West United Utilities 0870 7510093
North Scotland SSE Power Distribution 0870 9009690
South Scotland SP Power Systems 0845 2709101
South East England (Kent & parts of Sussex and Surrey): EDF Energy 0845 601 5467
Southern England SSE Power Distribution 0870 9050806
South Wales Western Power Distribution 0845 6015972
South West England Western Power Distribution 0845 6015972
Note: Some companies now own more than one network but have kept different phone numbers for each. What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

Hi,
The number to ring to find your gas supplier is (if memory serves) 0845 605 6677. It's the number for Transco/National Grid (whatever they're called these days!) and I'm pretty sure if you give them your postcode/house number they'll tell you who the gas supplier is. Anyway, I'm sure your gas bill is the last of your worries at the moment, but just thought I'd dip my oar in!
Congratulation on your pregnancy :j and good luck with sorting everything out. I promise no-one on here thinks you're stupid. I know what you mean about trying to save - I've always found it impossible!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm 29 weeks preggy. If you ever fancy a chat about anything just pm me. We have also had many things turn out not as we expected this year, costing us a fortune, leaving us with debt. But, the main thing that keeps me going when times seem hard is my bundle of joy
Hormones aside that is. 0 -
Feel a bit stupid now. Was so excited at finding number I didn't read properly and now realise it's for electric, not gas. Maybe it will help someone else though and in meantime I see another poster has found correct number! What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

chivers1977 wrote:IS it a Northern Rock together mortgage. If you did redeem the main loan I believe that they will change the rate on the unsecured part to about 14% APR but over the remaining term of the mortgage! Would you qualify for a £10k personal loan on a better rate as you will have approx that once you sold the property with fees etc.
It's a Natwest fixed rate mortgage (well fixed rate until june 2007 then it'll go up)0 -

It looks like you are trying to cut down and shave bit's off here and there. can really only suggest small savings , but every bit helps.
Your home phone, broadband and distital tv package is costing you quite a bit £73/month, I'm sure you can half that. How long are you tied into Sky digital for. Also do you have homechoice in your area, it runs off a BT line. We have it and pay £18/month for broadband + digital tv + £7 for free anytime landline calls. (£18 + £7 + BT (£11) = £36.
Have you examined if you really need two cars? (Although I guess being pregnant, and with the toddler it might be difficult without one.).
Thank you. Our home phone contract (calls & broadband through pipex) and sky contract run out december 2006 (around xmas) so looking at getting cheaper deals on telephone over xmas/new year and just get rid of sky altogether i think sure hubby can make do with freeview channels and toddler will watch cbeebies if required to anyway. We looked at having one car but unfortunately this can't work for us hubby works 6am until 6pm and i work 5pm til 9pm, so if i need to do food shopping and so on during 6am-6pm i need the car (especially as you say with a toddler & being pregnant now) but also as when I go to work I drop toddler off at a friends then drive to work and hubby needs to be able to get from work to childminder then home again. We're in a small town with lots of farms around so although we have quite a few ammenities the decent ammenities are a drive away.0 -
TallGirl wrote:Sorry to hear about your situaiton and congratulation on the pregnancy. I think you should contact SSAFA they might help you in particular with things for the baby. They are very friendly and nice but you are only likely to get help from them once so consider caryfully what you need the most.
How about considering bankruptcy if there is little or no equity in the house? It seems like you cannot afford to live there however I would not rely on council housing best to check it out before you consider moving as many places all you would get it a room in a B&B.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but with another one on the way stressing about money is the last thing you need so consider your option carefully.
Take care and good luck
Thanks I'll contact SSAFA next week once had a chance to sit down with hubby and go through everything. I looked into IVA's and bankruptcy but didn't see this as an option as can't see myself, hubby, a toddler and my bump staying at a B&B somewhere and putting all our stuff into storage somewhere. Was maybe thinking of relocating back to London and seeing if we could move in with my mum & dad until we find somewhere of our own to live but feel this would put strain on family relationships ontop of everything else. Guess I need to look into it more.0 -

Thanks for all this info unfortunately there is no meter identification number and being a new build our address isn't found by suppliers. I spent 3 months trying to sort it out with various companies including the one the housing company told me to call to sort it out - grrrrrr - hopefully someone will own up it's theirs soon!!!!!0 -
