i got my BCG at school and i remember a lot of people ended up with small scars - so i know it can flare up, but it's impossible to say what's up with your son. if you're very worried, ring NHS direct today, or get in touch with the GP in the morning.:happyhear0

My sons both had BCG at school when they were about 14. My daughter is now 14 and I thought we might hear about her jab soon. However, we have been told that as we are in a "low risk" area (Hampshire) that they do not give them to the school children now - only for ethnic minorities and people with complicated health issues.
I rang my doctors and was told the same thing and told to ring the local Health Authority about it if I was concerned.
My only thought is that we might have a low incidence locally but what about when the time comes for her to move away to uni or whatever?
My question is to everyone - do you know if your child will be given the BCG jab for TB? Have they phased it out to save money for the cervical cancer jabs for young girls? flu jabs for those who need them?0 -
I can't answer the latter question (about if they have phased them out or not) but remember having to get permission to have the jab from parents having signed a form first so if she is under 18 you would hear about it first.
If she goes to Uni thats a different matter and its then her responsibility as she'd be 18 yrs+. She could go to her doctors to get injections on request and I'd imagine if she is in a new area or feels concerned they wouldn't have a problem with giving the jab. Otherwise contact the PCT and see what they say.0 -
My TB jab has a ringed scar around it and gets itchy from time to time. I dont tend to worry about it unless it itches for more than 24 hours and tbh it never has. If it was still itching after that I would definitely see my GP just in case but unless its swollen, red or weeping I wouldn't worry to much.
Of course I am not a healthcare professional of any sort so please do seek other advise if you are worried at all.0
