a few years ago for my big son's 9th birthday we had an old fashioned party and a magician, musical chairs, pass the parcel and all the rest of the games and sausages, sausage rolls, sandwiches, ricecrispie buns, tophats, jelly and icecream and a big birthday cake, and so many parents came early to pick the kids up and have some food because they said that it reminded them of their birthday parties instead of the usual parties that the kids were all having at that time:T

Awww what a lovely idea. Think most of the things I was going to say have been covered. The only other thing I can recall us playing was musical statues and musical bumps (the one when the music stops you have to sit down as quickly as possible - Im not sure I would get up again very quickly these days though!!) Pass the parcel would be good too and you could put something really special in the parcel for him and make sure the music stops on him when its on the last wrapper.

A pinata might be good fun too although we didnt get those as kids. Think they were more of an american thing years ago. Tesco sell them now though.

My neighbour did a similar thing for her 2 grandchildren (aged 7 & 8) a couple of years ago and all the children said it was the best birthday party they had ever been to :j The grownups thought so too and lots of them stayed after delivering their children to the party :rotfl:

I love parties like that, with Mini Sausage Rolls, Egg Sandwiches cut into triangles, mini Sausages, crisps, cheese on cocktail sticks........ Then Tray bakes mars bar cake, fairy cakes, caramel shortcake. And the best bit the lopsided home-made birthday cake :) Mum did this for my dd's 1st birthday, best thing about it, the food :)

Party, musical statues, pass the parcel, we had a LARGE box filled with streamers and balloons and if you won a game, you had to dig about in the box to get a prize :)

Definately a candy buffet with retro sweets

Definately a traditional bufet with sausage rolls, little triangle sandwiches, little pizzas etc

Definately pass the parcel (sweet after each wrapped so every child 'wins' then a big prize at the end)

Definately musical bumps as this is hilarious!

Definately party bags for the piece of cake, a plastic toy, a pencil, a balloon and a sweetie!

Definately party hats (the little cardboard triangle ones) especially for the birthday boy

Do you have any picture of him as a child? Maybe you could put those up for him? How about making it a certain birthday, for example say its his 9th birthday. That way you could have banners and balloons with that number on.

Bounchy Castles can be really expensive so I would consider whether it is worth it as it may b worth spending the money on the rest of the party. Have to say I LOVED magicians at partys as a child, although I once had to leave the room to 'go to the toilet' when they pretended to chop my friends mums head off in one of them machines cause it scared me so much haha. Maybe it might be more fun to get a magician (or both if your budget allows) as your own kids would love it too.

And inviting his brother and other family would be a lovely thing to do as well I think :D.

Wow this sounds so amazing! Be sure to keep us up to date with your party planning :D
