tesco clubcard deals - what am I missing?

okay my vouchers arrived and I'm thinking about taking the RAC recovery for the missus, so I'm looking at the Tesco clubcard site, it says for example RAC Roadside £14.25 in vouchers (£57 normal price), so for a laugh I go to the RAC website and it says Roadside Recovery is only £29.99 for single, the same as the tesco one, heres the RAC link
http://www.rac.co.uk/web/breakdowncover/uk/;jsessionid=3DBA70C2A995D4F63B7F95F64CFCF346

infact I can get joint cover for £53 on the RAC site which is still less than what Tesco is claiming the single one costs.

Granted £14.25 in vouchers still saves me almost £15.74 off the RAC price, just a bit miffed its not the 4 X value they claim it is.........

or have I missed something obvious?

  • It's the same with a lot of clubcard deals but having said that they are still very generous. A magazine subscription might cost £28 at clubcard prices - that's just £7 in terms of tesco vouchers - and this might be available for £18 on the "open market". But you are still looking at a very generous discount - as you have discovered with RAC. I think with holidays it is the brochure prices which are invariably undercut in the real world. However I think with some vendors you really are getting 4 times value - like eating out - it's just a question of which one you go for.

    Hi,

You do have to "shop around" to get the best value from your Tesco deals! Some of the holidays you can book for example charge you full brochure price while other companies will offer discounts too even when you are paying with deals tokens.

What about having another look at the site - maybee use them for days out, restaurant or hotel, etc,etc if you do not feel you are getting best value from RAC!

  • thanks for your post i'd never thought to check price. yesterday order company magazine subscription for 6pounds worth of deals site says worth 24 pounds. Just looked after reading your post and its 19 pounds. I feel slightly cheated but none the less its a good offer.
For thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.
  • Similar situation exists with the days out purchased with the vouchers. Usually the vouchers can only buy single tickets rather than the cheaper 'family ticket'.
On a trip to Cadburys World recently we had to buy 2 x adult tickets and 3 x childrens tickets, rather than the '2+3 Family ticket'.
It still worked out at a very good discount so I can't complain, but it does annoy me a tiny bit!

Just thought I'd mention that you can use Tesco Deals Tokens to buy Family discount tickets for Drayton Manor.

Also, in 2006, when you bought ANY family ticket, you could get up to 5 reduced priced tickets when bought at the same time!
For 2 Adults + 3 children, it was cheaper (saved an extra £14) to buy the cheapest family ticket (1A + 2C), then add an extra Adult and Child tickets than it was to buy a (2A+3C) family ticket!!
  • Previous posters are right, you do have to look into it a bit. Days out and holidays are the best deals we've found.

We've just booked five days at Disneyland Paris next year using £165 of Clubcard vouchers to save £660 off the price of the holiday. Only had to pay £300 actual money, and that's for four of us travelling on Eurostar, hotel, the works.

Also just booked for Cadburyworld for four of us at Christmas, for just £10-worth.

Am very chuffed with that! Thanks Tesco!
