If its too good to be true - it is?

Or is it?

I am looking for a new set of golf clubs and googled a company called pickgf selling loads of golf gear. On their web site it does not make clear where they are based so I emailed them. I got a reply back promptly saying they were based in USA and were a long established reputable company selling OEM products direct from manufacturers with a secure payment system. Also free delivery from USA.

The clubs are half what I would expect to pay in UK. How can I really determine if pickgf are genuine?

Thanks

Mike

I don't know the answer to your question, but do be aware that anything valued at over £18 including postage is subject to a customs charge which is a percentage of the value coming into the country, and then a collection charge by the carrier.

As an example, many years ago I ordered an item from US which cost around £25. By the time all the charges had been added on, the total cost was about £60.

It is worth checking, because what seems like a good deal may not be so once you've included the cost of importing them.

lots of genuine items are a lot less in the USA
but as mentioned, once you pay import fees, you can factor roughly another third to half of the price ontop
we pay VAT etc, they dont
so we need to pay it on import

You'd have to be pretty daft to buy from a website which displays no address or phone number. How do you contact them if you have a problem with your order?

The Domain Registration shows that the site was created less than a year ago. There's no address details on it either.

As for them being based in the US well I think they're pulling your leg to put it mildly. The Registry Whois (see link above) says that the IP location is in Europe. Flagfox says that the server is based in the UK.

I could only find one review of the company but it was on lots of websites which indicates to me that somebody had done a lot of copying and pasting. In addition the English is completely mangled up as if somebody had translated from a foreign language.

One other thing. I have an add-on for Firefox called NoScript and that tells me that sitting in the background of pickgf's website is another website called cnzz.com. According to Web of Trust this site takes advantage of vulnerabilities in visitors' browsers amongst other nasty things.

Cnzz are based in China which leads me to suspect that is where any golf clubs sold by this site will originate. If that is the case they will almost certainly be counterfeit.

I would advise you to avoid this website and buy from a reputable British retailer.

    Thanks all especially coopdivi,

I am most grateful you have taken the time to research this company on my behalf. I am not sufficiently IT literate to have carried it out myself.

I did notice the mangled English and lack of address and when I emailed them they had the opportunity to come clean & provide a full postal address but only advised they are USA based.
