I live in a rented flat and recently received a letter from Wescot addressed to MR [MY INITIAL] [MY SURNAME]. I opened it, thinking it was for me and they just got the title wrong.
It was about £x amount of money owed to Sky. I have never had Sky so I knew right away it wasn't for me! I have a brother, MR [SAME INITIAL AS ME] [MY SURNAME] and assumed it must be for him. But he has never lived at this address.
I called them up to tell them this and they said they would pass it back to Sky to confirm if my brother is the MR [MY INITIAL] [MY SURNAME] they are looking for, and then will try again to locate him. They said they'd note on the system he doesn't/has never lived at this address.
I am a bit worried though that they will continue sending letters to this address for this MR [MY INITIAL] [MY SURNAME] and as I am moving out soon I would like to get it sorted before I do (the next tenants probably wouldn't be very happy about getting letters from Wescot).
Can anyone suggest a template for a letter I can send to them to ensure they don't write here again?

Hi sinstar,
I would suggest the prove it letter, although it does rely on the dca proving you owe the debt and could open lines of communication. Other than that though, I'm not so sure.1 High Street,

Dear Sir/Madam
Ref: xxxxxxxxxxx
You have contacted us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by ourselves.
We would point out that we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to The Loan Company.
We are familiar with the ‘Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance’ which states that it is unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.
We would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.
Furthermore, ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.
We would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above accounts unless you can provide evidence as to our liability for the debt in question.
We await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed. Otherwise we will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.
We look forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully
Mrs A N Other
Good luck

I forgot to include in my original post that I am MISS [INITIAL] [SURNAME] so they seemed quite satisfied that it definitely isn't my debt!
I think I can reword that letter probably to make it more 'don't write to this address' specific. Thanks!0 -
Hi Sinstar, if it helps any I too received a letter from Wescot but for an unpaid BT bill. I opened the letter as I am currently in a DMP with them for 2 of my debts so made the assumption it was for me. However it was for the previous tenant. I simply stuck the opened letter in an envelope along with a letter explaining it was not my debt and I had in genuine error opened the envelope. That was 3 months ago and they haven't contacted me since. I wasnt aware of this site and the template letters then but still, they have left me alone. Try not to worry.1st goal - reduce overdraft from £398 (feb2011)
