I keep one in the back of the car with a plastic bag in it as DD2 (aged 25) still gets travel sick. If she is sick we just remove the plastic bag and bin it.

I also have about 8 ice cream containers stacked in the cupboard under the stairs. We use them on stalls at church fetes to put the money in.

I 2L ones as a washing up bowl/fire bucket/waste water container/night time it's raining and I can't find my crocs bucket/bits and bobs container when camping.

They are great, take up little room in the car and stack inside each other. (the night one needs a BIG label though)
  • I always have one to hand to collect all the veg peelings/tea bags/egg shells/ripped up toilet roll inner tubes etc which then gets taken out to the compost bin approx every 2 days. It saves making a trip down the garden every time i prepare food. After a few times of use- about once a month-it gets thrown away and we use a new one.

I do much of the things already mentioned - freezing things in, toy bits storage, collecting bits for compost. Also used when painting to decant from a big tin as it balances on the ladder rungs when painting around the edges of a room, I also stand washing up liquid, cleaning cloth etc in one under the sink, also used as a pencil storage container by the children

I mix the dry ingredients for baking bread into them. Then when I want to bake a loaf I just grab a container off the shelf. I weigh up about 14 at a time.

I tend to use the smaller 1 litre tubs for storing dry ingredients in as they stack nicely in the cupboard and look neater than half rolled up bags. Larger ones get meals put into them and then frozen - I have one with meatballs in at the moment just ready to cook. :) Anything else gets used as fridge storage (grated cheese, etc). I have tried to make my own frozen desserts in the past and have had great success with making granitas - might have a go at making at ice cream this year.

I had loads of ones which were past their best after being used countless times for freezing, lunches etc. I gave them to dh to put all his 'bits' in the shed. He now has a semi neat stack of containers of screws etc.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

  • Which county are you in? I'm from a school in surrey (although i live in sussex) where I work as a science technician. We use these tubs in lessons as troughs, for a number of practicals but we're getting really low on them (and cant eat enough ice cream!).

There are loads of fab ideas above, but if youre fairly local and have some spare after trying out new ideas then we'd love to get hold of some!

I have a couple of the oval ones for taking food to work , they are great in the microwave and last longer than the proper containers I have bought :)
