in Credit cards
I was looking for a way to shift the 4K I have recently accrued on my debenhams store card and was offered an additional barclaycard with 0% for over a year but with a low limit. I sent off the paperwork but not heard anything back.
In the meantime I saw santander (who I use) had a 13 month 0% deal on and I decided to hedge my bets - totally forgetting that santander are now behind the debenhams card. I pay everything by DD so forgot that GE Capital bank are no longer involved - doh!
Fast forward to now and I have a new santander CC with a £5K limit which would be perfect for shifting the balance of the Debenhams card but it can't be done as it is santander to santander. Grrr.
So, is it frowned upon to not register a new card or should I take a token amount e.g. £1000 from my barclaycard and transfer it to the santander card just to keep the credit score high? Although I am up to my neck in debt, I have checked my credit report recently and it is really good and I would like to keep it that way.

how long do you have to make BT ?
can you make several
i.e. BT 1000 to barclays
then BT barclays to your new santander
and then repeat the process?
also can you BT from the debenhams store card .. does it have a 16 digit number?0 -
Yes I can BT from the debenhams card so could move the balance of that (which is on a silly rate of interest) to the barclaycard. the barclaycard was on an 8% promo rate but don't think I would get this for this BT and then I can move the debt on the Barclaycard that I am currently paying 8% interest onto the 0%.
Clapton, yer a genius!!If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Job done, thanks again Clapton. What I ended up doing today was moving the £4k from the debenhams card to the barclaycard which actually has a 6.9% rate on BTs for life but didn't have enough of a limit on that so moved 3K from barclaycard to new Santander card and upped the payments on them all to get them paid off sharpish. Phew simple when you know how.....If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
