You could always write to them.

I did try that when my SA for 2009-2010 produced a very surprising underpayment of over £3k. I got no reply till the nasty demand letter. In the past I'd get a calculation letter from HMRC in the post but not this time.

In the end, it was due to HMRC issuing me with the wrong paye code and I'm the one that got called a moron :rotfl:

I think I speak for most of us in that we have lost confidence in the postal method as some letters seems to get lost or end up in the wrong department. You would think that writing to your tax officer would be the safest method but I'm not sure now.

One problem i have, and i owe £2505.20, is i dont have a phone. Now going to use a phone box is a wee bit hard these days (try and find one) to get all my paperwork together then wait and wait and wait - piling in money and getting told yer in a que (like i dont know - having tried 4 times to get through to no avail). I would never think of asking to use a neighbours/friends phone for that amount of time.

Sorry but think i will have to wait for the demanding letters then CAB will have to help me.

    Pure turmoil!
Go to your local enquiry centre and use the telephone there, for free, and it's a priority line to the next advisor. I'm pretty sure you can use the job centre phones aswell.
