Staircasing - Shared Ownership

Does anyone know what criteria you need to be able to do this? We bought 50% of our property for £95k a couple of years ago and the rent seems to sneak up every year.

We probably won't be able to do it at the moment as we are due to have a baby next month and finances are tight.

But we do eventually want to buy more shares whether it's gradually or the whole lot at some stage.

Thanks

  • Each individual housing association sets its own rules but typically 10% minimum step and maiximum of three steps.

Be aware of the costs involved in each step usually make small steps uneconomical.

Also be aware that you will need some deposit funds becuse your equity has dwindled - is 'bank of mum and dad' (proud grandparents) a possibility (doesn't always need a cash injection from them - there are many structures) ?
