How to improve credit score

When i was 18 i took out a bank loan, catalogue, credit card, two store cards and a contract phone.
I paid the loan without missing a payment up until about 3 years ago.... got bank charges etc and these debts were sold on.
The credit card was not paid, along with the final contract bill.
the store cards debts also wnnt to collections.
approx 3 years ago was approached by debt management company who charged for their services.... pay certain amount and they would pay allcreditors..
i didnt feel like this was working and cancelled and have attemptedto pay all the creditors/collections since, whilst not managing to maintain a perfect record, however in the last 6months have been paying all accounts without fail....
can i get these accounts removed eventually, once paid? i recently moved home have been with my bank 3 years and myremployer about 7 years...
how long after they been cleared until score improves?

6 years from date of settlement or default. If there's nothing to score you down on, you won't get scored down. Lenders tend to cap your score with the mere presence of a default...the Experian score is capped at 900....you cannot get higher with that with a default or certain numbered payment statuses...3-6 I think.0
