advice needed re: personal phone number on leaflets

I work for a local youth club and someone has decided to put my own personal home phone number on the community leaflets for a contact about the youth club. Surley this should be illegal without my consent can anyone give me some advice on what is right as I am not happy and when I confronted them they said we didnt have any other number for you and walked off.

I don't know about the legalities of this, but it's certainly discourteous ... they should have phoned you on that number and asked if you were happy for it to be included! Who's done this, btw, local council or some local group?

Someone's done it without thinking or checking.
Now you know, you can make sure it doesn't happen again.

So are you the main contact or secretary or seomthing along those lines? Either way it would have been good of them to check you were okay with your number getting put out like that but I doubt that there is anything that you can do about it now.

See the CAB. This must be against the Data Protection Act. I would seek compensation for the inconvenience of having to change my personal telephone number.

Just thought: are they now going to pay you for being on call 24/7? Cheeky swines.

Ahh.... the great compensation culture :) (I really should have chosen a career in working for the claimant rather than the defence)

Certainly what they have done is morally wrong (unless it was part of the "job spec") but there is little that can be done now really other than stop using the existing leaflets.... bankrupting the club by suing it will not actually magically remove your telephone number from the leaflets already gone out.

Did the other workers have their telephone numbers published? Do you all 4 do the same job?

Compensation does not have to be hard cash. The OP could be given the afternoon off work (paid) to sort out the change of telephone number/supplier, for example.
