I'n not sure if this is the correct forum to post this query but........

My aunt has recently passed away, and my uncle, whom is dealing with her affairs has discovered from her bank that she has been paying an amount to Capquest Investments via direct debit each month.

We have absolutely no idea what this could be, though we do know that this is a debt collection company. As far as we are aware, she did not have any debt at all.

Is there any way that we can find out? I know that the obvious would be to contact Capquest, which we intend to do on Monday, but I wonder whether or not they will co-operate and speak to my Aunts husband?

If anyone can give any advice it would be much appreciated :)

Her bank have given us the instruction reference number, and the print-out also mentions Royal Bank of Scotland as the 'sponsor'?

Edit: I forgot to mention that this direct debit was cancelled a couple of days after my Aunt passed away - I do not know if it was cancelled by Capquest or some other third party, though we have not informed any financial institutions of her death until today??

    Hi,

    Don't speak to these morons.

Just send them a letter saying that she is sadly no longer with us.
The debt (if any) died with her.

Take no nonsense from them and if they give you any, just get back to us asap...;)

The debt, if she has any assets, will not have died with her.

Get your uncle sot send them a letter by all means, ask/no, demand details, enclose a copy of the death certificate.

If she had no assets, get your uncloe to cancel the direct debt immediately.
Let us know how your uncle gets on.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thanks ever so much for your reply - we are curious as to maybe she could have been paying off someone elses debt?

We would like to know exactly *what* was being payed off, as she has been married for many many years, and as far as my uncle knows, has never had any dealings with the RBS.

She does have a couple of daughters who we do know have been in debt at some stage so perhaps she could have been paying of something on behalf of one of those...?

Thank you - I will ask my uncle to write to them and send a copy of the death cert.

It's just very strange how the dd was cancelled a couple of days after her death - maybe if she was paying off a debt on behalf of someone else (one of her daughters?) then they could somehow have cancelled it?

I think if the "debt" was unsecured there is little they can do.

However, you do need to contact them to gain further info. Be careful of these leeches though. Keep all communication in writing.

No, no, no. The uncle has no obligation to send CQ copies of anything.

If she was the only liable party, then the debt has gone. The uncle has absolutely no obligation to deal with CQ in any capacity.

The Capquest DD should be immediately cancelled - there is nothing else left to be said.

And if the debt was solely hers, they cannot send him documentation to substantiate what they're collecting on.
