Does anybody reading this suffer from this??

I have had the feeling of a lump in my throat now for several weeks, not been to a doctor or anything but am convinced this is my diagnosis after researching the web.

Would be interested to hear of anybody who has/had this and how they got rid of it because its driving me insane!!

    That's a good diagnosis you've got there!

Can I suggest that you go and see your doc. You might be right, but I'm sure he will want to run some tests, just in case it's something else.

I must admit my first thought was thyroid. A lot of thyroidians have the feeling of a lump in their throat.

Your GP will be able to tell you.

    I had the same thought.

    It's very uncomfortable, isn't it?

OP you should check with your doctor.

I had that lump in my throat feeling whenever I swallowed years ago, when I was having a very stressful time putting on a strong front as a young supply teacher in a very tough and poorly-disciplined school.

The first thing my doctor gently asked was did I have any problems that were worrying me. I burst into tears and he signed me off for 3 days. Having shared the burden and renewed my vigour with 3 days off, it disappeared.
  • I do have an underactive thyroid, wonder if that could be a factor!! I had thought of that but i take my medication regularly but i am on a high dose, 225mg per day.

Am going to make an appointment to see my GP and get bloods tested as not been done for nearly 12 months.

When I read the symptoms of Gloubus "thingymajig" it was me down to a tea!!

I am a bit of a nervous wreck when it comes to diseases, type of person who thinks they have a serious illness all the time when really i am actually very rarely ill (touch wood). When the throat issue started i convinced myself there was some sort of cancer growing in my throat, that makes me stressed which no doubt is causing my globus hystericus to run wild. Suppose you could say i am a bit of a hyperchondriac but i manage to stay on top of it as best as i can.

I have read on web sites that valium helps treat it. Anybody tried this for this condition??

Hi, I had this years ago and it lasted about 2 years. It definitely co-incided with stressful times and it was diagnosed by my doctor. It is quite bizarre and you cannot believe there's not a marble in your throat. If it is this, then all I can say is IT WILL GO. I completely empathise with how distressing it feels, I was convinced it was something serious.. Be very kind to yourself, be aware of what stresses you and really try and relax with it. Relaxing the mind is key.

Reflux causes it too - too much acid in your stomach, so it's definitely worth a visit to your gp to sort it out.

My aunt had a feeling of a lump in her throat for a few weeks. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a hernia. She didn't have any other symptoms so I definitely think you should get a professional opinion.
  • If you are hypothyroid and you haven't been tested for 12 months it sounds like time to go and get a full blood work up - TSH, T4 and T3 if you can get it, plus Vit D, Vit B12 and ferritin. You're on quite a big dose and if any of those last three levels are low it will not be working as efficiently as it should.

Bite the bullet - see the doc.

I had this for months, it got worse and worse until the feeling started to make me feel sick. Went to the docs, who was convinced it was stress-related. Eventually I was referred for an endoscopy, and it turned out I had a hiatus hernia. Now on medication, and don't get the lump in throat feeling anymore.

You should def go to the docs and get it checked out OP.
