  • It may be factually correct, but it is not necessary to put it in such a rude way.
Also, is the poster of the comment paying you to reply for them ?

The impression I got when they contacted me to say I couldn't claim for expenses to an unpaid internship (and promptly wasted half an hour of their time going round in circles) is that they are looking to scrap the travel to interview scheme.

There are no DWP consultations to that effect.
    Gone ... or have I?

That's a very nasty comment Blackpool_Saver, it is not necessary to put it in such a rude way. :p
  • Love you too lol :)

BTW I can't see any consultations to that effect either.

  • Anyway aside of all that, let's hope that the OP gets the job and it was worth their while.

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

I am unware of companies that pay for interview expenses. Is this a new thing? Or is the expectation a new thing?

Would it not just be open to massive abuse?

rarely claimed them in private sector, even if it involves 2-3 interviews. I have applied for public sector where it has been offered, but not claimed as it has been minimal fuel I would have incurred

It's pretty common in my experience when applying for something out of the local environs, tends to be for the sort of positions that a reasonable person would relocate for.

I doubt abuse is that common. Again, from experience, they usually only cough up what the cheapest ticket would have cost and you generally need to show you've already spent the money getting there (receipts) before they reimburse you.

    Hey

More sort of a rant but hey :D

Went along to an interview this week for a major company in the transport industry. Took around 4hrs to get there and another 4hrs back+ leaving spare time for delays ect. Total cost of travelling £70- cheapest possible tickets.

Found out today that I haven't got around to the next stage of the interviews, and appreciated the good feedback. However they don't pay expenses:(

As a large well known company, I would have thought it would have been happy to pay for travel expenses (As long as legit) after having given up a whole day plus time preparing for the interview.

What are your thoughts on the issue?

I personally believe that large companies should be thankful for people giving up their time to attend the interviews and should pay for travel expenses. I can understand that for smaller companies, they shouldn't be expected to pay this.

As a student, losing £70 is rather alot:eek:

£70 is a fair whack to be out of pocket over this, but it doesn't surprise me that an employer isn't keen on paying for your application costs, especially if there are a high number of applicants. Bad luck I guess ... You have my sympathy.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.
