Red Debt Collectiors - Help Please

Hi,
I'm new here and I'm hoping that you will be able to give me some advice.
I received a letter today from Red Debt Collection stating that I owe £338 for an Abbey National current account which I held around 12 years ago. The letter is addressed to me in my maiden name (I've been married for 8 years).
I had two Abbey accounts, one of which was paid off around 7 or 8 years ago, maybe longer. The other one (which I think is the one the letter refers to) I assumed had just been cancelled out when I settled the other one.
I vaguely recall getting a letter at my old address a few years ago which I ignored at the time because even then, it was several years since anyone had tried to contact me about it.
In any case, it's been at least 7 years and probably much longer since any discussion was made about this debt with Abbey.
Do I need to do anything about this or should I just ignore it?
Even if the debt is owed, I've never got into any correspondence with anyone about it and apart from the letter a few years ago, this is the first time I've received anything.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi
Red are Lowell in clothing.
This debt is almost certainly statute barred (unless there is a valid CCJ granted in the last 6 years).
Technically, they can ask you to pay until you tell them in writing that you are not prepared to pay.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
