quicky question about bread

thanks that is really helpful. the only other problem i now have is the [ivot bit in middle that pulls the dough around the machine. it comes out in the bread. it even says on instructions that if it is baked and comes out within the bread just pull it out. is this some flaw within the machine that they found they could do nothing about and thats why theybwarn you it will probably happen. seems a bit odd and if you lay on side to cut potentially you will lose first slice as you will have hole right through it. i put the machine on 1 basic bread anf that takes 3 hours, seems a long time?0

The paddle is often stuck in the bread, and sometimes it stays in the machine. Either way you get hole where the mixing paddle goes. It is not a design flaw. Some put bread on Dough setting, then remove paddle & bake. I just live with it
3 hours is not a long time, my Panasonic is 4 hours for basic white, 5 for wholemeal. Many BMs have a Rapid Bake function of around 2 hours, but the resulting bread is often denser than you may like because the bread has not had chance to rise as much as it can, so it is a compromiseNumerus non sum0 -
Didn't you get an instruction book? The answers to your questions on proportions and timings will all be in there and as they do differ quite drastically from machine to machine we can only give educated guesses, not firm answers.
Three hours is a pretty quick program. You'll get better results from the standard programs most of the time.
Yes, turn the loaf on its side to cut it if it's a tall one. Makes no difference to the taste!
Also the paddle getting stuck in the base of the loaf is a near universal problem. My BM came with a metal hook to slip up the middle of the paddle and pull the hook out cleanly. I don't think any of my family have ever commented on being made to eat bread with a hole in the middle. It all vanishes in double quick time. It's no big deal unless you're eating honey.Val.0
