We are in a similar position and trying to avoid bankruptcy my partners ex ran up debts in his name to the tune of £120k she has a buisness but used him to run up the debts to the point that he was working for his business for nothing and working for her for a wage only to house her parents so in effect did not have a wage when he left her she sacked him hence he had no wage she is intent on making him bankrupt with her debts she will not address he is going through financial resolution at the moment and fighting his right with legal aid it is a huge battle and she is carrying on living the high life and trying to crucify him her aim is to see him on the streets he now has a job and is managing the debt but the battle for financial resolution is so unfair as he seems to be the one in question at each stage although we dont see what her situation is he is the innocent party she used to beat him up and he decided enough was enough when people decide to stand up for their rights all they want is some support from the authorities concerned to rise above this.
Has anyone got any advice or been in this situation

I've selected the most important bits from your post - hope that's OK
Unfortunately, in law, if the debts are in his name, they're his debts. You and he may feel that this is very unjust, but that's how it is
Get your partner to post his SOA on here (using the Make Sense of Cards template) and we'll be able to advise him further.

I'm curious as to how the ex managed to rack up debts in his name, isn't there a potential case for fraud here too? When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

He was probably bullied into taking out the loans etc.
Unfortunatly SilverCar is right and the debts are his.
Please get him to ring someone like National Debtline and get some advice on his options on dealing with the debt. If they do suggest BR then we will give him all the help and support we can.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
the debts were in his name because she used emotional blackmail and physical violence towards him to provide her with what she wanted, he is a caring person who was victimised by not only her but her family her intention is to make him bankrupt so she does not have to honour her share of the debts and walk away with £1 million pounds she is very maniplulative and pays people to fight her battles with (dirty money). Because she is a woman many people dismiss her actions but her and her family all work together and are very coruptive they try to use the law to their own means he is trying to fight his case by working with the law to do this, albeit she appears to find loopholes to escape her responsiblities.
He has information to prove the debts are also her debts and is pursuing this through the courts but this is a long and lengthy process which she intends to drag out by not complying and making excuses to delay things. The average woman would rather have beauty than brains,

If she sacked him after they split has he thought about going for unfair dismissal just to return some of the grief to her?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

i think you need to give a few more details
for instance
what were the debts, loans, credit cards, personal guarantees
are they solely in his name or in joint names
was the money from them put into a business
is that business still running
is that business a sole trader, partnership, ltd company
where does £1 million fit in all this
etc etc
start from the start and write a rough timelineHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

he looked into it and it would have cost as much as he would be awarded so was advised to drop his case as it was wiser to do thatThe average woman would rather have beauty than brains,
