Confused where I stand with an old Default (Orange PCS)

Hi all,

A few years ago while trying to get my financials in order and in good standing I sort to resolve a default with Orange PCS, this default dated from some time in 2005 and was for £13.

Anyway, being a good boy and doing what I thought was the correct thing I settled the outstanding amount and Orange assured me they would updated my credit files to no longer show any Default, so I figured that was case closed and moved on with my life. However I'm not sure if I have now set myself up for difficulty getting credit for the next few years!

I recently requested my statutory credit file from both Experian and Equifax. My Equifax file is fine, the Orange account in question shows itself as settled and with no defaults and should actually drop off my file soon anyway since I closed the account some time in 2005. However the problem (I think) lies now with the Experian file, this shows the account correctly: default/settled but with a default date of 14/02/2009! This is the date I made the payment to Orange, not the default date which was some time in 2005 :(

Would I have been wiser to just leave it and let the unsettled amount drop off my credit file? It seems to me that by trying to do the right thing I have set myself up for 4 more years of problems trying to get credit with this one default sticking out dated 2009. To clarify there are no other problems on my either of my files, all my accounts (1 credit card, 1 loan, current account, mortgage, mobile phone) are in good standing, up to date etc....

I have called Orange and they tell me this is correct, the default date will be when I settled the account not when the default originally occurred, however, the lady on the phone didn't seem to be able to provide any further assistance than tell me to write to the credit referrals department.

So, before I write a letter that most likely will be filed in the shredder can anybody offer and advise on where I actually stand? Can I correctly argue for this default date to be to set back to the 2005 date? Have I just learned a costly life lesson?

Thanks!

Jon.

  • Im sure its from the date of default not the date you settled, can you copy and paste the actual section from your credit report so we can have a look ?

its will be from the date of default 2005, it must be done in reasonable time and 6 years to put default on is not.

It will be a struggle unless Orange change it straight away, it took me 2 years to get my file sorted from LLoyds TSB.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
