Freezing Kippers

Hi, I'm looking for a little bit of advise before I poison myself.... I bought some kippers (the boil in the bag kind) when I did my last shop as I really fancied them. However I've been ill this week and kippers has been the last thing I've felt like. They have a Use By date of 5th March on them. Since they are in a vacuum sealed pack, will they be ok to chuck in the freezer and use at a later date or should I throw them away?

Hmmm...traditionally smoked fish was smoked precisely to keep them availiable to eat for longer, such as through the winter, but these days with supermarkets, you dont know if your getting a genuine smoked fish or something thats been flavoured to taste smoked. I'd say if it was a couple of days over then risk it, but this is nearly a week, and off fish is not something that you wanna be sick from!
If you do wanna try them, when you open them check the smell, and the feel of the surface of the fish - if the smell is funny and the skin is slimy, dont go there!!6 debts down - 1 to go: just over £1000 though, soon soon....
Staying happy and positive through 2011 (hopefully!) :j0 -
Hmm...think i might errr on the side of caution and resign them to the bin. Really annoyed with myself for not eating them or freezing them sooner, but I think for the sake off under £1, I'd rather avoid food poisoning.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Most things I will eat out of date, but not chicken and not seafood/fish, especially not 6 days out of date. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I'd think it would be fine. Since smoking is used as a preservative measure, but sold by supermarkets under 'fresh' guidelines. :A0
