when should a builder/handyman

odd job person be CIS registered. i have tried looking this up but it looks very confusing . any help anyone? thanks in advance.

Basically the cis covers contractors and subcontractors - therefore if a builder just did his own jobs he wouldn't need to be cis registered as he would pay his own tax. If he did work for a company on a subcontractor basis then he would need to be registered and they would basically pay his tax for him on any work done (so it would be deducted from his normal rate) and he could claim this back later if necessary.0

Depends on the Company your working for.
If they are registered as CIS contractors then yes.
If you sub contract to them, they should deduct CIS at 20% from your invoice excluding the cost of materials you have supplied.0
